NIU@RVC building engineering pipeline in the Rock River Valley

According to a March 23 article published in the Rockford Register Star, manufacturing and aerospace industry giants in the Rockford and stateline area have their eyes set on the future – and that future is being shaped by a year-old partnership between NIU and Rock Valley College.

The NIU-RVC Engineering Partnership, started in 2016, allows students to obtain a bachelor’s degree in engineering from NIU while attending classes at Rock Valley College, a Rockford-area community college.

“Students can stay in their hometown, close to family and friends. They don’t have to leave jobs that are helping them pay tuition. They don’t have to spend hours on the road getting to class. They’ll have an array of internship opportunities and the support of mentors from the local engineering community,” the Register Star’s Corina Curry wrote. “Years from now, [leaders are] hoping their initial investment in the Rockford community will come back tenfold in the form of dozens of locally grown, degree-holding engineers looking to land jobs and continue to work, live and play in the Rock River Valley.”
