Meet Sairyia Jemison, Industrial & Systems Engineering Major

Sairya Jemison tells us about herself, in her own words, and her experience as a student at NIU’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology:
My name is Sairyia Jemison and I’m a fourth-year here at NIU majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Sustainable Engineering.  I’ve had the pleasure of starting undergraduate research this past spring with Dr. Zinteng Wang and due to COVID, I will continue in Fall 2020. I’ve served as a student leader in the National Society of Blacks Engineers for the past three years as chapter Vice President, chapter President, Region IV Vice-Chairperson, and now Region IV Chairperson.
Currently, as Regional Chairperson I preside over Region IV’s membership and chapter leaders for Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and some parts of Canada and Africa. As Chairperson I help implement the National Directive set by our National Chairperson, I preside in the membership zone as a voice for my region on the National Executive Board and I lead a team of 18 to help provide guidance for chapters across our region.
