Nicholas Caravello, a graduate of the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health program in Northern Illinois University’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, has been selected to receive a Foundation Scholarship funded by the American Society of Safety Professionals.
Caravello, who is pursuing a master’s degree at CEET, fell in love with the environmental and health safety field (EHS) while working a summer internship. The experience helped him better connect to classroom material and he says he is now excited to pursue an advanced degree.
“I had some fantastic professors that helped me learn and grow in the classroom, and I am excited to learn from them again in a different setting,” Caravello said. “I know I am just starting out in my safety career, but I am excited to see where I go with it.”
“I am extremely grateful for this scholarship,” Caravello added. “It will help me grow into the safety professional I aspire to be. It is organizations like ASSP, and its dedicated members, that make this all possible. Without all the safety-focused individuals and organizations involved, we could not open up the path for the next generation of safety professionals.”
The ASSP Foundation awarded $334,500 in academic scholarships this year. Caravello received $3,000 toward his graduate education.
