Advanced Engineering Degrees Accelerate Career Trajectory

Engineering can advance their careers and position themselves as experts in their fields by obtaining an M.S. or Ph.D. in a field such as mechanical engineering. NIU’s program represents an extension of in-depth study for the subdisciplines of the mechanical engineering profession, including applied mechanics, dynamic systems and control, materials and manufacturing, and thermal-fluid engineering.
Students can get involved with faculty-led research funded by Fermi National Accelerator Lab to improve the accuracy of measuring the magnetic moment of the muon particle. Or get hands-on experience with swarm robotics, additive manufacturing/3D printing, video game-based learning, and modern manufacturing materials testing. Or, join faculty-led research projects related to energy, the environment, ethics and economic issues as they relate to climate change and a sustainable energy future.
NIU also offers master’s degrees in industrial and systems engineering, advanced manufacturing technology and electrical engineering. Doctoral degrees are offered in electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering and mechanical engineering.
