The Huskie Hypermilers finished ninth at the Shell Eco-marathon Americas 2024, clocking in at the equivalent of 5,640 miles per gallon.
The performance was good enough to earn the team ninth place in the competition, which was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway April 3-7. In all, 73 teams from Canada, the U.S. and Central America participated in the event, including 28 in the Battery Electric category where the Huskie Hypermilers competed.
All aspects of the 70-pound vehicle were designed, manufactured and assembled by the 30 members of the NIU team. NIU took first place in the competition in an internal combustion version of the vehicle in 2019.
