Your Complete Guide to NIU Engineering @ RVC

NIU Engineering @ RVC provides a convenient path for engineering students at Rock Valley College to complete their bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Northern Illinois University. As a freshman and sophomore, you will be an RVC student. As a junior and senior, you will be an NIU student taking your classes on the Rock Valley campus.
Before You Start
Check with David Schneider at Rock Valley College to make sure you are on track to meet all of the prerequisites to enter NIU’s program as a junior.
When to Apply
·      If you’ve taken between 12 and 24 credit hours at RVC:
You can apply to the Guaranteed Admission Program one year before enrolling in classes at NIU. This program allows you to be admitted to NIU while enrolled at RVC.
·      If you’ve taken 24 or more credit hours at RVC:
If you’ve already taken some sophomore credits or you have completed your associate’s degree, you can apply as a transfer student. The deadline to apply for the Spring 2018 semester is Dec. 1. There is a $40 application fee unless you qualify for a waiver.
Choosing Your Classes
Once you’ve completed all your prerequisites and submitted your application, contact Dr. Matt Gonserto begin the NIU advising process. As an NIU student, you may also join NIU student organizations.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
The window to file your FAFSA opens Oct. 1. You should apply as soon as possible after that date because funds are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The last day to apply to the NIU Financial Aid Office is June 30.
AcademicWorksis NIU’s campus-wide scholarship application system. Fill out the AcademicWorks application to be considered for multiple competitive scholarships. The deadline to be considered for most scholarships is Jan. 31.

Congratulations! Once you have completed all of the requirements for graduation, you can walk across the stage at the NIU Convocation Center to receive your bachelor’s degree and join more than 10,000 alumni of the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology worldwide.
