Isabelle Vondra, biomedical engineering student, class of ’22 from Geneseo, Illinois, says she chose the field because she has always been interested in medicine and healthcare fields. “I’m excited by the opportunity it provides to improve human health by working on cutting-edge solutions to medical problems,” she says. “A degree in biomedical engineering gives me a lot of career options. I may still pursue a degree in medicine.” She chose NIU for its Research Rookies program, the emphasis on hands-on involvement and its affordability. The NIU Transfer Merit Scholarship she was awarded is helping make her dreams a reality.
