Mitutoyo supports Department of Technology

an NIU student receives a gift of metrology tools from Mitutoyo

Mitutoyo America Corp., an Aurora-based manufacturer of precision measuring instruments, showed its continued support of Northern Illinois University’s engineering technology programs with a visit to campus on Sept. 11.

Over the past 12 years, Mitutoyo has been an ardent supporter of the NIU Department of Technology. It provides the department with advanced measurement tools and sponsors a lab bearing its name, the Mitutoyo Metrology Laboratory, where students learn to apply metrology in manufacturing.

In 2016, Mitutoyo started a program in which it provided each student in the machine production processes course with a new caliper, micrometer and ruler for use in their course work and in their professional life after graduation. On Sept. 11, Mitutoyo America President Matt Dye and General Manager of Corporate Metrology Jim Salsbury visited the Mitutoyo Metrology Lab to present the metrology tools to this year’s machine production processes students.

“The support provided by Mitutoyo helps our students develop advanced measurement skills through classwork and in various independent and industry projects that they will need to secure excellent employment after graduation,” department Chair Cliff Mirman, Ph.D., said.
