Dressed for success: 500+ students make their best impression at fall job fair

More than 500 NIU engineering and technology students strove to impress nearly 60 employers at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology fall job and internship fair Oct. 19.
“The NIU engineering and technology job fair has grown immensely in the last few years,” said Jelmir Atkins, external programming coordinator for the college. “The hard work of these students definitely has shown today and has paid off.”
Navistar was one of the 58 companies interviewing students. Company representatives said NIU graduates make valuable employees because “they really hit the ground running when they begin their employment and are just all-around very knowledgeable and well trained.”
Representatives from Ipsen and Made to Measure echoed the sentiment, adding that those companies already count a number of NIU alumni among their employees.
In all, 534 students attended the fair, including 57 computer science majors, 220 mechanical engineering majors, 122 electrical engineering majors, 100 industrial and systems engineering majors and 37 engineering technology majors.

The twice-annual job fair was held in the ballroom at the Holmes Student Center, just one day after the university’s all-majors career and internship fair at the Convocation Center.
